As I reflect on my own journey with life-long learning, I am struck by how my understanding of the power of books has expanded. One profound experience that has shaped this understanding is the transformation of The New Victorian School library.
Despite a heavy bilingual and music curriculum, I took on the challenge of expanding the library and encouraging students to read more than 40 books per school year. It was a rewarding endeavor, and in honor of my mother, who always emphasized the importance of education, I named the library after her.
Now, as I embark on my own journey of motherhood, I am amazed at how my little girl has developed a deep love for reading books. It brings me tremendous joy to witness her excitement as she flips through colorful pages, discovering new worlds and stories.
As she continues to grow, my aspiration is to nurture that love and instill in her the significance of sharing it with others, just like my parents did with me. The school library has been a crucial platform for sharing this passion, and there are other fantastic initiatives like Little Free Library that also foster the love for books within communities.
Time flies, and it feels like my daughter is growing up so quickly. But one of the most heartwarming moments was watching her confidently donate old books that she outgrew to others who may enjoy them as much as she did. It reminded me of the wonderful power of sharing the love of reading.
So let’s celebrate the love for reading, nurturing it within ourselves and our children. Together, we have the power to create a world where every child has access to the joy and knowledge that lies within the pages of a book.
